Welcome to Ride For Schools 2013
Ride for Schools is an organized fundraising bike ride that will raise money and awareness to benefit our local public schools, and a great way to have some fun while helping to make sure that our children get the education they deserve.
The ride will take place on June 29th 2013 with options of 25 and 40 mile routes, both starting and finishing at Aloha High School. Riders for the 40 mile route will start between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM, and Riders for the 25 mile route will start between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM. All participants will pay $25 to register for the supported bike ride, and are then required to commit to raising a minimum of $35 for the participating school district of their choice (see list below). 100% of the fundraising proceeds will be given to the schools.
At the start, there will be nutritious snacks to prepare you for the ride. There will also be a mechanic on hand to assist with minor bike repairs, or help inflate your tires to the proper pressure to ensure that your ride goes smoothly. Both routes have SAG support to help riders in need of support along the route. There is a stop in the middle of each route at Groner Elementary School where you can use the restroom, refill your sports drink / water bottles, and get a snack. After rolling through the finish line, you will be served lunch as a way to say thank you for your support.
Local public schools are in dire need of our help. The majority of funding for public education comes from state and local taxes, but these sources are unable to fully fund programs that are needed to educate our children. Oregon schools have the third highest class sizes, and one of the shortest school years in the nation. Our schools have been forced to lay off thousands of teachers and students are being crammed into overcrowded classrooms. Our children and our communities deserve better.
What will the money raised be used for
100% of the fundraising proceeds will be given to participating public schools.
Each school district has its own challenges, so each will use the donations they receive differently; some will use the money for teacher salaries to support smaller class sizes, other districts will use their donations to help support programs like homework clubs and summer school, others may buy new textbooks or computers. However they choose to allocate the donations, all will use the money to benefit our children by improving their education.
The options for schools districts to donate to in Ride For Schools 2013 are Beaverton, Hillsboro, Forest Grove, Tigard / Tualatin, and Sherwood.
The 25 mile route is relatively flat with a total of 460 feet of climbing over the length of the course. Riders will pedal past farmlands and orchards along country roads as they head out of Beaverton and into Hillsboro. This is sure to be a fun ride, and a great way to support your local schools.
The 40 mile route is the more challenging ride. It has 1640 feet of climbing with some rolling hills and a level 4 climb up Holly Hill. Riders will pedal past farmlands and orchards along country roads as they head out of Beaverton, into Tigard, along the outskirts of Sherwood, and into Hillsboro before returning. One of the highlights of this ride is spotting the 727 aircraft, complete with wings, which has been converted into a house nestled on top of a hill. This is sure to be a great ride for those that like to be challenged, and a great way to support your local schools.
